Episode 003

The WTF Files

Business. Brands. Bizarre behaviour.A founder's account

The circle of life

Thank you, universe. Through gritted teeth.

After a long stretch of being a right miserable cow, I've made some big decisions. One involves wallpaper. One involves a funeral. One is a brand new beginning.

As the great Elton John once sang, ‘The Circle of Life, it’s the wheel of fortune.’

Now, don't get me wrong. I've been a right miserable cow for quite a while.

The business I founded turned into a pile of shite. Then a bun fight. Then an upsetting relationship with my bank account.

But I think I've reached that annoying part of the journey where I can honestly say it.

Thank you, universe.

It's a cliché, but it's true. To move on to greater things, there are lessons to learn and heartaches to grow from. Etc, etc. So this last week I made some big decisions. I’m excited. Some might look unconventional. To me they make complete sense, and they feel very empowering.

1. The dopamine decision

I embraced the autistic part of my brain, gave in to the dopamine, and bought some very odd frog wallpaper for my home office.

You might think that's a small thing. Wait until you see it.

Does it spark joy? Absolutely.

Small decision.Big frog energy.

2. Death of a brand

The Savage Cabbage Obituary

I'm owning the narrative on the demise of Savage Cabbage.

After a very thorough post-mortem, I've decided it's time to lay out the facts and the timeline, in the hope that other people can learn from a dreadful scenario. A business collapse case study, if you will.

Facts, humour and some eye-watering corkers.

It's called The Savage Cabbage Obituary. You can save yourself a seat for its launch.

It's going to be magnificent.

3. Life. A new beginning.

A new project · launching soon

Well, this is awkward.

I have a new project ready to launch. I'm excited. I think it's marvellous.

I'm navigating that first step.

I'm being held by kind people who know me and my commitment to new endeavours.

And I'm very much looking forward to sharing it with you.

The bit where I break my own rule

I guess my summary of things right now means breaking my own rule of no motivational BS. But here we are.

Here are my rules for new beginnings. I know. I know.

Motivational? Sorry. It slipped out.

Right. I'm off to find some Elton-style glasses, because I've developed an earworm.

Sequins optional.
Obviously not.

Stay safe, kids x
